Following the outbreak of the H5N1 avian influenza in Teignbridge District of Devon County in the UK, Hong Kong food safety authorities have instructed the suspension of the import of poultry meat and eggs from the area to the SAR with immediate effect.

Authorities say Hong Kong imported about 390 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat, and some 830 thousand poultry eggs from the UK in the first six months of this year. Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety has contacted the British authority over the issue.
