President Xi Jinping held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing. Xi said China-Russia ties have "set an example" of relations between major powers in the world.

Putin is among the 26 world leaders joining Xi to attend events commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

After attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, Russian President Vladimir Putin travelled to Beijing, arriving at the Great Hall of the People this morning for a meeting with President Xi Jinping. Xi called Putin an "old friend."

Xi says Sino-Russian relations have withstood the test of global upheavals, adding that the two countries have set an example of relations between major powers characterised by "good neighbourliness," comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Putin, meanwhile, says it is of special significance for China and Russia to jointly commemorate victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

Xi and Putin then had another meeting over tea with some of their top aides also present.

The pair witnessed the signing of more than 20 bilateral agreements encompassing energy, aerospace, AI, agriculture, education and media-related fields.

Beijing will also extend visa-free travel to ordinary passport holders from Russia on a trial basis.

Before the bilateral talks between Xi and Putin, a three-way meeting was held with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh also participating.

Xi says China will continue to deepen cooperation in such areas as the economy, trade, science and technology.

China and Mongolia also signed a series of bilateral cooperation agreements.

Xi notes China and Mongolia are friendly neighbours and both sides should consolidate strategic trust and give fresh impetus to the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi also met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Xi says China supports the central Asian nation in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests.

After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the exchange and signing of multiple bilateral trade agreements.

Meeting separately with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Xi says China and Pakistan are friends in times of adversity, brothers in need and partners bound by trust and principles.

Sharif reaffirmed Islamabad's commitment to the one-China principle and says he looks forward to strengthening bonds of friendship and promoting cooperation in various fields.

Also noting their "ironclad relationship," Xi stresses China supports Pakistan in "maintaining unity" and "building up its own strength" as well as developing an upgraded version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the upgraded China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement.

He adds China supports Pakistan's efforts to combat terrorism and hopes Pakistan will take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects there.

While meeting Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, Xi says China respects Tehran's rights to peaceful use of nuclear energy, as well as maintaining their sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity.

With Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Xi spotlights their bilateral strategic partnerships in emerging industries such as AI and semiconductor.
