The GPS system of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plane was jammed while it was en route to Bulgaria on Sunday.

According to the European Union, Bulgarian authorities believe the lost signal was due to Russian interference.

The plan landed safely in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian government stated that the GPS signal was lost as von der Leyen's plane approached the southern city of Plovdiv, prompting air traffic controllers to switch to ground-based navigation systems to ensure a safe landing.

A European Commission spokesperson remarked that von der Leyen saw firsthand the everyday challenges of threats coming from Russia and its proxies, and that the EU will continue to invest in defence spending and in Europe's readiness even more after the incident.

The Russian government did not comment on the accusation.
