In the mainland, a new set of regulations on labelling artificial intelligence generated content officially came into effect today.
The regulations stipulate that all AI-generated text, images, audio, video, virtual scenes and other contents should be explicitly or implicitly labelled on content-sharing platforms.
There are three levels of review in the regulations. Online platforms should conduct reviews before content release. If the platforms detect implicit markers from the metadata of contents, they can then label them as AI-generated.
But if the platforms merely infer through some algorithms that the contents are made by AI, they should be labelled as unidentified or "suspected AI-generated content"
with risk notices added.
The goal, authorities say, is to block the transmission of false information.
