The latest on the alleged dine-and-dash case at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central. A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly failing to pay a hotel bill after dining with a woman he met online.

Surnamed Wong, the suspect was taken in Tseung Kwan O on suspicion of obtaining property by deception.

It's understood the man previously worked as a community officer for a political party and had earlier used online platforms under a false identity to lure two women to hotels for sexual activity, falsely claiming connections with senior police officials.

In 2023, he was convicted of unlawful sexual activity and sentenced to 33 months in prison. Authorities suspect he reoffended after his release.

The dine-and-dash incident occurred last Thursday evening. A 31-year-old woman invited a man, who claimed to be a lawyer, to dinner at the hotel's Chinese restaurant.

The man ordered a 2002 vintage French champagne priced at over 70,000 dollars. Near the end of the meal, he excused himself to go to the restroom and then disappeared.

The woman later had to call friends to help settle the bill.
