A turbulent start to the extended holiday weekend in the U.S. as a plane was forced to make an emergency landing after dropping five thousand feet midair.

Two people had to go to hospital after being thrown from their seats after severe turbulence on a Skywest plane over Texas.

The flight began in Aspen and was heading to Houston. NBC reports.
