CE attended ceremony marking 80th anniversary of victory in War Against Japanese Aggression

Chief Executive John Lee attended a ceremony this morning at the Monument for Martyrs Against Japanese Militarism in Tam Chuk Wan, Sai Kung, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Lee, along with Secretary for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen,representatives of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, and representatives of the disciplined services, arrived at around 9 a.m.

Before the ceremony began, the flag-raising procession entered the venue, and everyone stood in silence while singing the national anthem.

They observed a two-minute silence to commemorate the anti-Japanese martyrs.

Lee laid a wreaths and paid respect, before delivering a speech. 

In his speech, John Lee emphasised that the Monument for Martyrs Against Japanese Militarism serves to remind people of the importance of peace.

He said: "The world is currently undergoing unprecedented changes, with geopolitical uncertainty and unpredictable circumstances. Peace is far from over. We remember history not to perpetuate hatred and grief, but to awaken people's yearning for and perseverance for peace, so that people around the world can share in peace."
