Police arrested 29 people on suspicion of trafficking dangerous drugs. The youngest arrestee is just 13 years old.

Between May and August this year, police disguised as drug buyers on social media, pretended to purchase etomidate, cannabis and cocaine.

After some investigation, the force launched a two-stage operation from Monday to Thursday.

On Monday, the force raided three drug storage locations: an industrial flat in Kwun Tong, a tenement unit in Sham Shui Po and a village unit in Tai Po.

In the process, authorities seized a large amount of drugs, including about 590 etomidate capsules, 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and 580 grams of cannabis buds. Five people were arrested, aged between 22 and 56.

In the second phase, police arrested 24 suspects, aged between 13 and 66, across the city. Among the arrestees, three were below 18 years old, with one allegedly selling drugs to undercover officers.

The police said the number of people arrested in relation to etomidate has increased in the first half of the year, compared to the same period of 2024.

Authorities remind the public that drug trafficking is a serious offence, with the maximum penalty being a fine of five million dollars and life imprisonment.
