Preparations are underway for the military parade on September 3rd marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
A Foreign Ministry official told reporters Beijing is willing to keep lines of communication open and settle differences with Washington.
Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu was asked about Sino-U.S. relations during a press conference on the V-day commemorations this morning.
Ma expressed China's willingness to work with the United States under the principle of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
The official emphasised attempts to pressure or coerce China will not succeed, and any effort to curb China's development or hinder its rejuvenation is destined to fail.
Ma said, "We are willing to work with the U.S. side in the same direction."
And he urged both sides to follow through on the two heads of state's important consensus while maintaining communication, managing differences, and expanding cooperation.
Ma further stated the world remains unsettled 80 years after World War Two, and it is necessary for countries to collaborate towards common goals and improve global governance.
He said China suggests the building of a community with a shared future for humanity that goes beyond egoism, protectionism and some countries' hegemony.
Ma said this vision is beyond the so-called "universal values" defined by a handful of Western countries, as it encompasses the broadest common ground for collectively building a better world.
Ma also stressed the Taiwan question lies at "the very core of China's core interests," and that it is purely the country's internal affairs that cannot accept any external interference.
He warned those attempting to use Taiwan as a means to contain China are playing with fire and will perish by it.
