The University of Hong Kong medical school has developed an organoid-based platform to assess antibodies and vaccines against respiratory viruses.

By using lung stem cells and nasal epithelial cells, the research team created standardised nasal, airway, and alveolar organoids.

Unlike traditional cell lines, organoids, or mini-organs, simulate human organs, and are believed to accurately predict the effects of antibodies in the human body.

The researchers said the model not only improves the efficacy assessment of Covid-19 antibodies, but also other therapeutic vaccines.
