Hong Kong reports one more imported case of chikungunya fever.

That brings this year's total imported tally to 12 cases so far.

The Centre for Health Protection says the 34-year-old patient, who lives in Sai Ying Pun, visited Sri Lanka from August 15th to 24th where he was bitten by mosquitoes. During his travel there, he developed a fever, headache, joint pain and rash. His fever subsided before returning to Hong Kong. Because of persistent joint pain, he visited a private hospital on Tuesday and was confirmed to be infected with chikungunya.

Health authorities says his fever had subsided before arriving in Hong Kong, and he won't pass chikungunya fever to mosquitoes. So he was not admitted to hospital. His household contacts showed no symptoms.

The Centre for Health Protection says the new school year is about to begin. He appealed to schools, teachers and students to take mosquito prevention and personal protection measures.
