A magnitude 6 earthquake struck just off the northeastern coast of Taiwan around 9:11 p.m. with no immediate reports of damage.
The tremour could be felt in Taipei.
The epicentre of the quake was located at a depth of 112 kilometres -- some 20 km offshore from Yilan county, the weather administration said.
