The funeral of Henry Hu Hung-lick, the founding Chancellor of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, who passed away at the end of last month, took place this morning.

His second son, Dr. Hu Fai-chung, the Acting President of Shue Yan University, arrived at the Hong Kong Funeral Parlour in North Point early this morning.

Founded in 1971, Shue Yan was Hong Kong's first private university, providing tertiary education to students at a time when university places were scarce, in subjects ranging from journalism to accounting over the years.

Figures from the political, educational and other sectors paid their respects today.

The pallbearers included Executive Council Convenor Regina Ip, former Secretaries for Justice Elsie Leung and Wong Yan-lung, former Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Ambrose King, and Shue Yan University Council Chairman Kenneth Ting.

Henry Hu passed away on the 27th of last month at the age of 105. He will be buried alongside his late wife, Chung Chi-yung, at the Hong Kong Cemetery in Happy Valley.
