Police received 160 cases related to online investment fraud over the past week, with losses topping 90 million dollars.
Among the victims is a 45-year-old accountant who created an online listing to lease out her parking spot.
A fraudster reached out to her about the car space rental. After nearly a month of communication, the scammer did not rent the parking space but recommended to the victim a "high return" U.S.-dollar-based stablecoin investment scheme on a fake online platform.
After making a quick profit, she transferred her 2-million-dollar savings within two weeks, along with a 4-million-dollar fund she manages for her father, into the scammer's two virtual currency wallets before discovering it was a case of fraud.
Blockchain experts remind the public to be vigilant when investing in virtual currencies and use licensed trading agencies when making such investments.
