Israeli airstrikes hit Yemen's capital on Sunday, days after the country's Houthi group fired a missile towards Israel.

Israel's military described the Houthi missile as the first cluster bomb the group had launched since 2023.

According to a Houthi health official, the latest Israeli strikes killed at least six people and injured 86 others, seven of them in critical condition.

Israel's Kan TV says 14 warplanes were sent to bomb targets in Sanaa in retaliation for last week's missile launch against Israel by Yemen's Houthi group.

The Israeli Defence Forces say they hit a military compound housing the presidential palace, two power plants and a fuel storage site.

The Houthis reported several deaths in the strike and dozens of injuries, vowing to continue their assault on Israel in support of the people of Gaza.

Sitting with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Houthis are learning the hard way that they will pay a heavy price for their aggression against Israel.

Since the start of the war, the Houthis have been disrupting shipping in the Red Sea and attacking vessels with Israeli links.

The IDF also released video of Israeli tanks operating in Jabaliya in northern Gaza, saying its troops have returned to combat in the area.

Dozens of Israeli tanks are also waiting at the Gaza border, ready to carry out Netanyahu's order to seize Gaza City, which has been plunged into famine because of an Israeli blockade.

Katz warned that Gaza City would be destroyed unless Palestinian group Hamas lays down its arms and releases all of the remaining hostages.

Hamas says it is ready for a ceasefire but would not abandon their weapons without the creation of a Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, the life-and-death struggle for aid in Gaza continues.

Witnesses say Israeli forces shot dead four Palestinian aid-seekers travelling through a military zone south of Gaza City as they tried to reach a food distribution centre.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said the incident did not occur near its site nor as described.

This as Gaza's health ministry reports another eight deaths related to malnutrition, including a child, bringing the total starvation-linked deaths during the war to 289, 115 of them children.

The world's top food security authority, the ICP, last week declared famine in Gaza City, though Israel denies starvation in the enclave.
