France summons American ambassador over antisemitic allegations

France summoned the American ambassador Charles Kushner after he wrote a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron alleging France had failed to do enough to stem antisemitic violence.
In the letter, Kushner urged Macron to tone down criticism of Israel, saying French government statements about recognising a Palestinian state have fuelled antisemitic incidents in France.
The French foreign ministry said Kushner's allegations were unacceptable.
Kushner is Jewish and his son is married to U.S. President Donald Trump's daughter.
Macron has emerged as one of the more forceful critics of Israel's actions in Gaza, while Trump has steadfastly supported the Jewish state.
