The Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office will launch a six-day enforcement operation at public transport facilities, starting Monday to combat illegal smoking.
ISHIGAKI, tourist: "There are (fewer) people smoking on the street, which is a good thing actually. I feel quite uncomfortable being the second-hand smoker."
The efforts are part of the government's ten measures to rein in tobacco use, including expanding smoking ban areas.
Starting August 31st, such areas will cover ten new public transport facilities, including Chai Wan East Temporary Bus Terminus, the Convention and Exhibition Station in Wan Chai and Wong Chuk Hang Station.
Altogether, there will be 272 non-smoking public transport locations.
Those who smoke in a designated no-smoking area or on public transport will be liable to a fine of 1,500 dollars.
