In February, the government relaxed the restrictions on young people entering billiard halls.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law says the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has so far received 32 applications from billiard halls hoping to allow children and uniform-wearing students to enter.
The government has earlier begun accepting applications from billiard halls that met requirements to lower entry age limit to 8 years old.
The culture chief says the 32 applicants are vetted based on their venues' operations and their surrounding environment.
Nine applications are set to receive approval.
Rejections are mainly due to the less ideal surrounding environment to allow minors in and the relatively high number of prosecutions received such as smoking-related issues.
