North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised the launching of new missiles to test their combat capability, according to the country's state media KCNA.
The report said the test on Saturday proved the missiles' effectiveness in countering drones and cruise missiles.
This came just before a scheduled meeting in Washington between U.S. President Donald Trumpand South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Monday.
Kim's government has repeatedly dismissed calls by Washington and Seoul to restart long-stalled negotiations to wind down its missile programmes.
