The Immigration Department said that during the first seven months of this year, an average of 91,000 passengers traveled through the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point daily on weekends, triple its designed capacity. Improvement works are underway to strengthen the border's handling capacity.

Measures include adding four e-Channels to the departure hall, bringing the total to 18. The project is expected to be completed next month, with additional conventional counters to follow.

As for the arrival hall's improvement project, which was completed last year, the number of e-Channels has also been increased to 18, and the number of conventional counters has been increased to nine.

The Immigration Department noted that the current passenger flow in and out of the control point has exceeded the originally designed capacity. However, it emphasized that the control point is operating in good order and will continue to monitor passenger flow and implement improvement works.
