U.S. aviation giant Boeing is set to finalise a deal with China to sell as many as 500 aircrafts, sources tell Bloomberg.

If it goes through, it would end a sales drought that goes back to U.S. President Donald Trump's last visit in 2017.

The two sides are reportedly still finalising details of the deal, including types, volume of models and delivery timetables.

The deal is years in the making and may depend on the two nations defusing trade hostilities.

Chinese officials have already started consulting domestic airlines on how many aircraft they would need.

The sale appears to be similar in scope to the 500 jets deal China has struck with Europe's Airbus, but have yet to announce.

The order would be the foundation of a trade agreement benefiting both Trump and President Xi Jinping.

A similar announcement was almost made in 2023 in San Francisco but then-President Joe Biden and Xi left the summit without consolidating the deal.
