The Observatory will issue the Standby Signal. No.1 at 9:40 p.m. 

The area of low pressure over the seas west of Luzon has intensified into Tropical Depression and will enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong shortly.

The tropical depression will move across the central and northern parts of the South China Sea and intensify gradually over the weekend, maintaining a distance of about 500 kilometres or more from the territory.
