President Xi Jinping will be attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 in Tianjin at the end of the month. Beijing says member states of the bloc should work together to oppose hegemony.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit will run from August 31st to September 1st.
The event will be attended by over 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international organisations for a series of high-level events.
Among the leaders attending are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
It is the fifth time that China will host the event; it will be the largest summit in the organisation's history.
President Xi is expected to chair the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State and the "SCO Plus" Meeting, where he will deliver keynote speeches outlining new proposals for improving the global governance system.
According to China's Foreign Ministry, the SCO upholds the Shanghai Spirit, which means respect for cultural diversity, mutual trust and mutual benefit.
The ministry says more countries are welcome to join the body.
Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin said that, in a display of western hegemonism and power politics, certain countries attempted to prioritise their own interests above others, seriously threatening world peace and stability.
Liu emphasised the need to strengthen solidarity and cooperation at a time when the international situation is becoming more complex and turbulent.
Officials said the Tianjin declaration will be issued at this year's summit to chart a path for the SCO's development strategy over the next 10 years.
