The area of low pressure over Luzon will enter the South China Sea and intensify into a tropical cyclone.
It is expected to enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong tonight. The Observatory will issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 by then.
The tropical cyclone will move across the central and northern parts of the South China Sea and intensify gradually over the weekend, maintaining a distance of about 500 kilometres or more from Hong Kong, in the general direction of the southern part of Hainan Island and the seas to its south.
Locally, it is expected to be mainly fine and very hot at first tomorrow. There will be a few showers and squally thunderstorms later.
