To boost security and economic ties, top diplomats from China, Afghanistan and Pakistan gathered for their sixth trilateral dialogue in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi reportedly said Beijing intended to explore and mine minerals in Afghanistan and wanted Kabul to formally join the Belt and Road Initiative.

Wang said the three parties should expand development cooperation, improve security dialogue mechanisms, and strengthen efforts to combat transnational terrorist groups, such as the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement.

He pointed out China and Pakistan have taken the lead in assisting Afghanistan with its stabilisation and reconstruction, and pledged continued support for the country's efforts to normalise its diplomatic relations.

Wang told Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi that China will deepen mutual political trust and step up cooperation with Afghanistan in areas including trade and agriculture.

In a separate meeting with the Afghan Prime Minister, Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Wang said China will continue to uphold justice and oppose unilateral bullying.
