Foreign Minister Wang Yi has left India after a three-day visit.
Following talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a meeting on border issues on Tuesday, the two sides reached 10 points of consensus, including the reopening of three traditional border markets.
Modi stressed China and India are partners, not rivals, and are facing the common task of accelerating development.
As the two Asian powers make cautious efforts to iron out strains, China's top diplomat Wang Yi met with Modi in New Delhi on the second day of his India trip.
Wang hailed the stability that is now restored in the borders, saying the setbacks they experienced after a years-long standoff were "not in the interest of the people" of the two countries.
Calling for expanding cooperation and promoting mutual understanding, Modi said the two sides should properly manage and settle boundary issues.
He also expressed great anticipation for his visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit, and his forthcoming meeting with President Xi Jinping.
Modi described last October's summit between the two leaders in Kazan as a turning point in the improvement and development of bilateral relations.
The 24th round of talks on the border question was co-chaired by Wang and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday.
Wang said both sides should adopt a dual-track approach that promotes mutual benefits and fosters a positive cycle.
While reiterating the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, China and India have arrived at a consensus on restarting dialogue mechanisms in various fields, including the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation and opposition to unilateral bullying, Wang said.
Officials announced the 25th round of the border talks will be held in China next year.
A work group will be established in a bid to explore the possibility of advancing demarcation negotiations in areas where conditions are ripe.
They also agreed to reopen border trade of the three traditional markets, namely Renqinggang-Changu, Pulan-Gunji, and Jiuba-Namgya.
