President Xi visits Tibet to mark 60th autonomous region anniversary

President Xi Jinping has arrived in Tibet earlier today for events marking the 60th founding anniversary of the autonomous region.
Xi was leading a central government delegation and their special flight arrived in Lhasa at noon.
The Chinese leader was the first to exit the aircraft and waved to the public. He received a warm welcome by all the ethnic groups in Tibet with singing and dancing.
State media reported Xi urged the building of a "modern socialist" Tibet "that is united, prosperous, civilised, harmonious and beautiful".
A celebration commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region will be held Thursday morning. President Xi will be in attendance.
