In the counterfeit drinking water case involving the Xin Ding Xin Trade Company, Hong Kong Customs arrested a director of the company and his wife today on suspicion of contravening the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. The pair had earlier been arrested by the police already.
With unanswered questions and key details still unclear in the counterfeit drinking water supplied by Xin Ding Xin Trade Company to the SAR government, TVB News visited one of Xin Ding Xin's alleged manufacturers on Tuesday -- Mount Guanyin Water Company's factory at Zhangmutou town in Dongguan City, Guangdong.
It is understood the police also went to the water plant on Tuesday to investigate before confirming that the bottled drinking water of Xin Ding Xin was manufactured there.
Police earlier arrested the 61-year-old director of Xin Ding Xin, Lui Tsz-chung, and his 57-year-old shareholder wife, Chan Pik-lam on suspicion of fraud. Lui was remanded in custody after being brought to court. His wife was released on police bail. Hong Kong Customs on Wednesday also arrested Lui and his wife for allegedly contravening the Trade Descriptions Ordinance by attaching false manufacturer information to the labels of its drinking water.
The Customs and Excise Department says it has actively followed up with the Government Logistics Department and relevant departments, including the police. Customs says it is not ruling out more arrests in future.
