According to the latest government statistics, Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went up to 3.7 percent in the May-to-July period.
That's a rise from the 3.5 percent in the previous reporting period of April-to-June.
More distinct jobless rate increases can be seen in the food and beverage services, retail, real estate, and the foundation and superstructure sectors in construction.
Meanwhile, declines in the unemployment rate were observed in the cleaning, decoration, repair and building maintenance, and social work sectors.
The number of unemployed people in Hong Kong rose by around 8,800 to 145,000 between May and July.
The government says the uptick in the number of jobless people was partly attributable to the influx of fresh graduates and school leavers entering the labour market.
