The government has suspended the contract with a supplier of bottled water for official use after suspicions emerged that the company used a mainland Chinese brand without permission.

Tonight, the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau revealed that an emergency meeting was convened with the Audit Commission invited to look into the possible omissions or problems in the tendering process.

The bottled water supplier in question is Xin Ding Xin Trade.

It labelled another Guangdong company as its manufacturer but the manufacturer has confirmed with TVB News that they did not supply the water and says they have sent a letter to the administration over the case.

Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury Christopher Hui says the incident has drawn extensive public attention and led to concerns among government colleagues.

Hui says a meeting was held with Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury Andrew Lai, who was responsible for the procurement.

Hui will establish a task force alongside other government bureaux and departments to review the procurement mechanisms.

A report will be submitted after three months.
