According to the Hong Kong Observatory's forecast, the tropical depression over the north-central part of the South China Sea will maintain a distance of 600 kilometres or more from Hong Kong. It is moving towards Hainan Island. The Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in force at least until 8 o'clock tonight. The need for issuance of the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 thereafter depends on the distance between the tropical depression's associated strong winds and the Pearl River Estuary and the change in local winds.
