A 23-year-old Chinese heiress, Yang Lanlan, appeared via video link in a Sydney court for the first hearing of her drink-driving case which left a driver seriously injured.
The accident occurred on the early morning on July 26th, when Yang allegedly smashed her custom Rolls-Royce worth 7.5 million Hong Kong dollars into a black Mercedes and severely injuring the 52-year-old driver, George Plasssaras. The driver now requires the amputation of a thigh.
Apart from journalists, over 100 people could be seen gathering outside the courthouse, curious about her identity.
A breathalyser test showed Yang had consumed alcohol, but she refused a second test at the station.
She faces charges of causing bodily harm by misconduct and refusing to take an alcohol test, which carry a maximum sentence of over ten years in prison.
Reports of a huge bail payment circulated online but police clarified her bail conditions include the surrendering of her passport, a driving ban and reporting to the station three times a week.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 26th.
