In their first face-to-face meeting since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump travels west and Russian President Vladimir Putin east to meet in Alaska on Friday.

Whether the meeting can lead to a peace deal more than 3 and-a-half years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine remains to be seen, but many analysts already consider the meeting a win for Putin.

U.S. President Donald Trump met with the press in the Oval Office ahead of his trip to Alaska Friday for his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, promising a second meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy included.

U.S. President Donald Trump said: "We have a meeting with President Putin tomorrow. I think it's gonna be a good meeting but the more important meeting will be the second meeting that we are having. And we're gonna have a meeting with President Putin, President Zelenskyy, myself, and maybe we'll bring some of the European leaders along, maybe not."

This as Putin held a meeting Thursday with top government officials about Friday's meeting with Trump.

In a short video released by the Kremlin, he said Trump's administration "is making quite energetic and sincere efforts to stop the hostilities, stop the crisis and reach agreements..."

Many analysts consider Friday's meeting is already a win for Putin.

Senior Fellow of Diplomatic Practice, Tuft University, Don Heflin said: "We've got to remember that Putin in a certain sense is a pariah. You know, he can't travel anywhere in the world he wants to. He's under all kinds of sanctions. And just the fact he's been invited to a world power, like the U.S. is a big thing."

David Salvo, Managing Director, Alliance for Securiing Democracy, German Marshall Fund said: "I believe that Putin thinks that he can convince Trump yet again to see his point of view. So this is a really, really important moment for President Putin to be able to get inside Trump's head again and hopefully, from the Russian perspective, convince Trump that Russia's maximalist demands are what should drive negotiations with Ukraine."

The talks are scheduled at 11:30 local time in the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska.

After the two leaders' one-on-one meeting accompanied by interpreters, the delegations from both countries will join the talks.

The Russian delegation will include the foreign minister, defense minister, finance minister and Putin's investment chief.
