Kim Keon Hee, wife of South Korea's ousted president Yoon Suk Yeol, spent her first day in prison following her arrest over charges including stock manipulation and corruption.
This is the first time in the South Korean history that a former presidential couple are jailed simultaneously.
Kim appeared solemn at a court hearing on Tuesday and denied all charges, but the court approved a detention warrant citing the risk of evidence destruction.
The 52-year-old was placed under custody at a solitary cell at the Seoul Nambu Detention Center.
Investigators claimed the couple had meddled in the selection of a candidate during the parliamentary by-elections in 2022.
Kim is separately linked with allegations such as involvement in stock price manipulation tied to a local BMW dealership, as well as accepting luxuries as bribes.
Her husband Yoon, who was impeached and removed from office over a short-lived martial law decree, is on trial on charges of insurrection and abuse of power.
