A 48-year-old male patient in the Intensive Care Unit of Tuen Mun Hospital suffered a cardiac arrest after his ventilator was not set to normal operating mode.
The man was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital with severe pancreatitis and multiple complications early this month. He was intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation.
On Tuesday morning, the man's oxygen levels dropped and went into cardiac arrest after staff adjusted the ventilator.
He was revived within two minutes and remained conscious afterwards.
During resuscitation, medics discovered the ventilator had been misconfigured and corrected the setting.
Hospital management has met with the family. More investigations are under way.
