Mosquito control measures are conducted in Kwai Chung

One new imported case of chikungunya fever was reported yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in Hong Kong to six so far this year. 

This morning, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) deployed workesrs to conduct mosquito control near the residence of latest case in Kwai Chung.

Several FEHD workers, along with health inspectors, cleared stagnant water in back alleys near the patient's residence on Ta Chuen Ping Street. They sprayed mosquito repellent, and poured medicated powder into a nearby drain.

The latest confirmed case is a 31-year-old local man living on Ta Chuen Ping Street in Kwai Chung. He had traveled to Foshan City between the 1st and 3rd of this month and developed a fever, rash, and joint pain since last Friday. 

He sought treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of Yan Chai Hospital on Monday, where a blood sample tested positive for the chikungunya virus.
