Standby Signal No. 1 issued

The Observatory issued the Standby Signal No. 1 at 8:40 this morning.  Severe Typhoon Podul is expected to move across the southern part of Taiwan and maintain a distance of over 400 kilometres from Hong Kong for most of the time today.  The No. 1 signal will remain in force during daytime today.

Podul will be closest to Hong Kong tomorrow morning.  The Observatory will assess the need to issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between tonight and tomorrow morning.
