To handle floods due to frequent extreme weather, the Drainage Services Department has purchased three more anti-flooding robots, which are expected to be put into use this week. The Drainage Services Department purchased three anti-flooding robots named "Dragon Suction" in April.

The robots can deal with a flow rate of up to 800 cubic metres of water per hour.

The silver pipe intakes water and the red one serves as the outlet.

These robots can be operated at 10 different levels. Those demonstrating set it at level 3. Within a minute, the water was drained into a manhole 10 metres away.

During the black rain last week, the three existing robots were deployed 10 times, using an average of 1 to 2 hours to complete the work.

Leo Chan, senior engineer of the drainage department, stated that drainage pipes can discharge the water into nearby public rainwater drainage, rivers, or directly into the sea. Operators will adjust the operating level according to the situation.

Yvonne Lo, the chief engineer, stated that each robot costs around 1 million dollars.

Three more robots have been ordered and will be ready this week.

The six anti-flooding robots will reach the affected areas and operate as soon as possible.

After the rainy season, authorities will try to optimize the operations and further improve Hong Kong's ability to deal with extreme weather.
