The White House is reportedly considering new levies on China as punishment for it buying Russian oil.
This as the Chinese embassy in Washington justified the trade with Russia, saying it's in line with international law.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News that after India, President Donald Trump may slap tariffs on Chinese goods in veiw of the country's continued purchases of energy products from Russia, but added no firm decision has been made yet.
China is currently the largest importer of Russian oil, taking in around 108 million tonnes last year.
This accounts for 20 percent of China's total oil imports.
With no major breakthrough from the last round of U.S.-China trade talks in Sweden, the clock is ticking for both sides to reach a durable tariff agreement ahead of tomorrow's deadline.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said dealing with China is "difficult" because it's a "non-market economy."
