Hong Kong Ocean Park's "Wild Twister" ride allegedly malfunctioned this evening. The high-speed spinning attraction came to a halt at 6:20 p.m. The Park says the ride triggered a safety braking system because of a malfunction signal during operation and was temporarily suspended. 17 people were stranded at a height.
Starting at 7:37 p.m., with the help of firefighters, staff guided the affected passengers to safely return to the ground. All 17 users had been rescued by 8:07 p.m., with no injuries reported.
Ocean Park is conducting a comprehensive inspection and repeated testing of the "Wild Twister."
The waterspout-inspired ride began operations in 2019. In 2021, it experienced a mechanical breakdown that forced the attraction to stop moving suddenly. At the time, multiple users were stranded mid-air for more than five minutes.
