The battle over congressional lines in Texas has spilled into the weekend with protests over Republican plans.

Democrats who have left the state to try to prevent a vote appearing with California's governor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom is planning the Golden State's own redistricting plan which he will put before voters in November in a counter move to the controversial plan in Texas. NBC explains.
