The city reported one new imported confirmed case of chikungunya fever and one suspected case, bringing the tally in Hong Kong to at least five.
The Centre for Health Protection said that
the new imported case involved a 66-year-old woman with a chronic illness living in Shek Lei (I) Estate, Kwai Chung.
From July 24th to August 5th, she travelled to
Foshan City alone to visit relatives.
After returning to Hong Kong on Wednesday,
she developed a fever, rash and joint pain.
After a day, she visited Yan Chai Hospital for
medical treatment and was admitted on the same day.
She is now in stable condition.
Another possible case of chikungunya fever
involves a 22-year-old woman living on Sai Wan Ho Street.
She travelled abroad from July 16th to August 4th to Madagascar, Mauritius and Malaysia.
She was bitten by mosquitoes while in Madagascar in late July -- and developed a fever and a rash.
After returning to Hong Kong, the fever subsided.
She later tested negative for the virus but her samples returned positive in antibody tests.
Authorities say she has recovered and is no longer contagious.
