President Xi Jinping had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Apart from bilateral and international issues, the pair also touched on the Ukraine crisis.
President Xi stressed that China is happy to see Russia and the United States work to improve relations and promote a political resolution.
With the possible meeting between the leaders of the United States and Russia, President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call on Friday.
Putin was said to have talked about the Ukraine crisis from Russia's point of view and the recent communications between Moscow and Washington.
Putin reportedly told Xi that Russia "highly appreciates" China's constructive role in resolving the crisis.
Putin said the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership will not change under any circumstances, and Russia is willing to continue to maintain close communication with China.
President Xi Jinping, meanwhile, says there are no simple solutions to complex problems but no matter how the situation changes, China will adhere to its consistent position to promote peace talks.
Xi reportedly says China is pleased to see Russia and the United States maintain contacts, improve relations, and promote the process of political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.
Both sides are said to be working together to prepare for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, to be held between August 31st and September 1st in Tianjin and promote the high-quality development of the body.
The SCO summit this year will be the largest of its kind since its founding.
In attendance are leaders of more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organisations.
In Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the Tianjin summit.
