The number of applications for the government's various talent programs has exceeded 510,000, of which 340,000 were approved.

The Labour and Welfare Bureau said these programs have economic value and are long-term investments. The renewal figures for the High Talent Pass Scheme will be announced within the next two weeks.

Secretary for Welfare and Labour Chris Sun posted on social media that the continued introduction of talent will help maintain overall population stability.

Many people are already employed in Hong Kong, working in key industries such as finance, innovation and information technology, and trade.

Following the suggestion by Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Leung Chun-ying, that most talent arrivals do not settle in Hong Kong, creating uncertainty for policymaking, Chris Sun said, without naming Leung, that most arriving talent rented properties first.

It is also because of this influx of talent that Hong Kong's residential property vacancy rate has remained stable, despite an aging population.

Sun said the authorities will continue to assist incoming talent and understand their development and needs.
