A meeting between the U.S. and Russian presidents has been agreed according to a Kremlin official.

The announcement was made on the eve of the White House deadline for Moscow to show progress towards ending the war in Ukraine.

On Thursday, Russian presidential foreign affairs advisor made clear that a U.S.-Russia summit will take place very soon.

Russian presidential foreigh affairs advisor Yuri Ushakov said "At the suggestion of the American side, it has been agreed in principle to hold a bilateral meeting at the highest level in the coming days, that is, a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Now together with our American colleagues, we are starting to specifically work out the parameters of this meeting and the venue. I would like to note that the venue was also agreed on in principle and we will announce it a little later."

But those who would like to see a trilateral meeting with Ukraine included may be disappointed.

This option was just mentioned by the American representative (special envoy Steve Witkoff) during the meeting in the Kremlin.

But this option was not specifically discussed. The Russian side left this option completely without comment.

It was not clear how the announcement of the meeting would affect Trump's Friday deadline for Russia to stop the killing or face heavy economic sanctions.

A Gallup poll published on Thursday found that only a quarter of the Ukrainians interviewed want to keep fighting until victory. Support for continuing the war is declining steadily across all regions and demographic groups.
