Father sentenced to 56 months in jail after strangling daughter with emotional problems

A man who strangled his daughter with emotional problems to death three years ago has been found guilty of manslaughter, and was sentenced to 56 months in prison.
The incident happened in March 2022, during which the 70-year-old man strangled his 32-year-old daughter to death at his Hoi Fu Court residence in Tai Kok Tsui.
The defence said the man was physically attacked by his daughter with an umbrella when he was trying to use the bathroom, and only lashed out after he was verbally abused for more than an hour.
He subsequently alerted the police two hours later.
This as the prosecution said the man's daughter had been disturbing his sleep since the end of 2021 and that he had reached his breaking point.
The presiding judge initially sentenced the man to a starting point of seven years in jail, but the sentence was reduced owing to the man's earlier guilty plea.
