Dozens of Palestinians were killed or wounded Monday when desperate crowds headed towards food distribution points and airdropped parcels in Gaza. Witnesses say Israeli troops opened fire on the crowd.
Israel's blockade and military offensive have made it nearly impossible to safely deliver aid, contributing to the territory's slide towards famine nearly 22 months into the war with Hamas.
Tracey Furniss has more.
Airdropped aid continues to fall in central Gaza as desperate Palestinians struggle to collect what they can, and food parcels land in far off areas or so-called red zones controlled by the Israeli military.
These two men fight over a box of aid. This crowd too fighting over the spoils. Some aid landing on tents, injuring those inside.
A Palestinian nurse was also reportedly killed when an airdropped aid box fell directly on him. These people carry an injured man from a tent to a car.
This Palestinian man from Deir al-Balah said, "We were waiting for the airdrop, the aid landed on the tent and the person inside looked to be killed. The man was taken to hospital. God knows if he was a martyr or injured."
Palestinian and U.N. officials said Gaza needs around 600 aid trucks to enter each day to meet the humanitarian requirements.
It is the number Israel used to allow into Gaza before the war.
Israel has now said it will allow gradual and controlled entry of goods to Gaza through local merchants.
The aim is to increase the volume of aid entering Gaza while reducing reliance on aid collection by the U.N. and international organisations.
Meanwhile, explosions and smoke were seen over Gaza early Tuesday, as Israel continues its military operation in the enclave.
And in New York, several demonstrators were arrested Monday as they took to the streets demanding an end to what they describe as the starvation of civilians in Gaza.
Protester Lily Greenberg said: "I think the tide is turning, and I'm glad that people are changing their mind, but I do think if you have just realised what is happening in Gaza and are naming it for what it is now, you're obligated to come out into the streets and be really loud in naming that this is a genocide, that this is forced intentional starvation, and doing everything you can to make sure that it stops."
