Hong Kong secondary students show gaps in understanding what the government-promoted Vocational and Professional Education and Training, or VPET is about.

A new study reveals that, while 64.7 percent of students have heard of VPET, only half of them actually understand what it involves. More than 30 percent have never heard of it.

Students also consider vocational education carries a social stigma. Over half believe VPET is just for those who struggle academically.

In response to the findings, the Task Force on Promotion of Vocational Education is rolling out 6 proposals, including creating clear career paths with guaranteed pay progression, and expanding company-backed internship programs.
