U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff may travel to Russia this week to push Moscow to agree to a ceasefire in its war with Ukraine. The Trump administration earlier threatened new economic sanctions if progress is not made.
(Reporter:) Mr President, can you give us an update on Steve Witkoff in Russia and what happens on Friday and the deadline comes and Russia has not agreed to a ceasefire?
U.S. President Donald Trump replied: "Well, there'll be sanctions, but they seem to be pretty good at avoiding sanctions. You know, they're wily characters and they're pretty good at avoiding sanctions. So we'll see what happens."
This as a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil depot near Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi sparked a major fire overnight.
And another Ukrainian drone attack damaged a power line and sparked a fire at a railway station in Russia's southern region of Volgograd.
