Persistent rain pounded multiple provinces across northeastern, northwestern and southern China while intense heat scorched municipality Chongqing and Hubei province.

Temperatures have reached 39 degrees Celsius in parts of Hubei and up to 43 degrees in Chongqing.
The persistent heat has led to signs of drought in some townships across Chongqing, prompting regional coordination efforts to manage water resources.
